4 Reasons No One Is Reading Your Blog and How to Fix It

In This Post, We’ll Talk About Reasons No One Is Reading Your Blog and How to Fix It

You wanted to build a site that everyone wants to read, share and comment. You have worked very hard to create quality content on your blog, but what if no one is reading your blog?

How terrible it is if all of your blogging efforts go in vain?

Here are the 4 major reasons most people don’t read others blogs, and I’ve compiled the actions to fix them.

Let’s move into the details to build a better blog.

#1. Your typography sucks :

Majority of the blogs don’t have good combination of font size and font type (often called it as “typography”). This is the reason why most online readers don’t prefer reading these blogs.

If you want to make others to read your contents, your first priority should be on improving your typography of the blog.

Instead of using font size to 12 px (which is extremely hard to read), make it 14 to 16 px.

And use Verdana, Georgia etc. easy to read font types to provide great user experience for your readers.

Note: Don’t make your font size too large (18 px is very large and it makes your readers to scroll more times on your blog, which is a bad user experience)

#2. No Compelling Headlines :

Most readers skim through the headlines of any blog that they come across. If you don’t spend quality time on writing compelling headlines, you are wasting your time and killing your readership.

According to Brian Clark of Copyblogger, 80% of the online readers read headlines and 20% of them read the content if the headlines are attention grabbing.

What does it mean?

Headlines play a major role in building your readership and increasing your page views.

Headlines which start with How to’s and numbers always work, because they insist curiosity among the online readers to easily skim through the contents.

And also make it a habit of analyzing popular blog’s headlines, this way you will be able to easily understand what type of headlines go viral in online. Repeat the same on your blogs too.

#3. Generic Content Makes Anyone Yawn :

97% of the blogs fail miserably majorly because they lack of good content. Good content doesn’t mean having great writing skills or having more connections etc. Good content adds value to your potential readers.

Without solving your readers problems how can you expect from them to read your blog and buy your products?

You first have to find out your targeted readers and then analyze their problems and frustrations. Solve their problems on your blog posts and try to get more online visibility to build a profitable blog.

#4. Slow Loading Web Pages :

If you website or blog is loading slowly, you are in trouble. You must find out the reasons why your site is loading slower and try to immediately act on those problems to make it load faster.

First off, find out the loading time of your websites.

To do this, use any of the following tools

  1. Gtmetrix
  2. Pingdom
  3. Webpagetest
  4. Google Page speed

Disable hot linking : Hot linking is the process of others linking to your images or inner web pages which create more burden on your server, thus it makes your site loading time faster.

To disable hot linking from your WP sites, open your .htaccessfile, and copy the following code.

disable hotlinking of images with forbidden or custom image option

RewriteEngine on

RewriteCond %{HTTP_REFERER} !^$

RewriteCond %{HTTP_REFERER} !^http(s)?://(www\.)?YourSiteName.com [NC]

RewriteCond %{HTTP_REFERER} !^http(s)?://(www\.)?google.com [NC]

RewriteCond %{HTTP_REFERER} !^http(s)?://(www\.)?feeds2.feedburner.com/YOUR-FeedBurner-Name [NC]

RewriteRule \.(jpg|jpeg|png|gif)$ – [NC,F,L]

Here are few more ways to make your site loading time better.

  • Optimize your images
  • Make use of less plugins
  • Use a better hosting service
  • Install W3 total cache plugin

In a nutshell : Most bloggers love to read, link and comment on those blogs which can enhance other’s lives. If you want to build a successful blog, focus on writing content that solves your readers problems and make your site user experience better by improving your design elements and speed.
