As of 2026, to get paid for views on TikTok, each video needs at least 1,000 qualified views. First, your account must join the Creator Rewards Program. That needs 10,000 followers, 100,000 video views in the last 30 days, age 18+, and an account in a supported country. Videos must be at least one minute long.
Last updated: October 11, 2026. Rules checked against TikTok’s Creator Rewards Program Terms (US version updated July 20, 2026).

How Many Views on TikTok Do You Need to Get Paid?
There are two view rules, and people mix them up all the time.
- Account rule: your account needs 100,000 authentic video views in the 30 days before you apply. This is a one-time gate to join the Creator Rewards Program.
- Video rule: once you are in, each video needs at least 1,000 qualified views (TikTok’s Creator Academy says 1,000 views on the For You feed) before it can earn anything.
There is no payment for a video with 900 views, even if you are in the program. And there is no payment for any views at all if you are not in the program.
| Requirement | Number | What it applies to |
|---|---|---|
| Views to join the program | 100,000 in the last 30 days | Your whole account |
| Views per video to earn | 1,000 qualified views | Each eligible video |
| Minimum watch time per view | 5 seconds | Each view |
| Minimum video length | 1 minute | Each video |
| Minimum followers | 10,000 authentic followers | Your account |
| Minimum payout | $50 | Your monthly balance |

Which videos earn money
Even inside the program, not every video counts. An eligible video must:
- Be at least 1 minute long.
- Reach at least 1,000 qualified views.
- Not be a Duet or Stitch.
- Not be a Photo Mode post.
- Not be an ad, paid promotion or sponsored post.
- Be original, made by you, or add new ideas to existing content.
- Be “high quality” in TikTok’s judgment.
Reposted movie clips, lightly edited podcast cuts and other people’s footage will usually not qualify. If you need a cleaner edit, my list of free online video editors covers tools that work without a watermark.
What Counts as a Qualified View on TikTok?
This is where most creators lose money without knowing it. TikTok only pays on qualified views, not on the big number under your video.
According to TikTok’s terms, a qualified view is one where the viewer:
- Watches for 5 seconds or more.
- Does not mark the video as “Not interested”.
- Is a real user. Several views from one account count as one view.
Views that TikTok considers artificial, paid, incentivized or from your own network are excluded.
So if a video shows 1.8 million views, the qualified number could be much lower. In practice, short scroll-past views do not count. That is why two videos with the same view count can pay very different amounts.
How Much Does TikTok Pay Per 1,000 Views?
TikTok does not publish a fixed rate. Its terms say rewards depend on “total legitimate video views and other signals” of popularity and engagement, at TikTok’s discretion. TikTok can also cap rewards monthly or yearly.
TikTok’s creator dashboard and creator-facing guides describe those “other signals” as average watch time, search value, audience location, engagement and advertising value. TikTok’s terms themselves only say “views and other signals”, so treat this list as guidance, not a formula.
Creators who share their dashboards commonly report earnings of about $0.40 to $1.00 per 1,000 qualified views (this is called RPM, revenue per mille). Some niches with high search value report more, and many new accounts report less. Treat these as reported ranges, not official numbers.
| Qualified views | At $0.40 RPM | At $0.70 RPM | At $1.00 RPM |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1,000 | $0.40 | $0.70 | $1.00 |
| 10,000 | $4 | $7 | $10 |
| 50,000 | $20 | $35 | $50 |
| 100,000 | $40 | $70 | $100 |
| 500,000 | $200 | $350 | $500 |
| 1 million | $400 | $700 | $1,000 |
| 10 million | $4,000 | $7,000 | $10,000 |
Source: jitendra.co calculation using creator-reported RPMs. Not an official TikTok rate.

One detail most guides skip: the $50 minimum payout. At $0.40 RPM, you need about 125,000 qualified views in a month just to reach the payout threshold. At $1.00 RPM you need 50,000. Under that, the balance rolls over, and TikTok’s US terms say an unpaid balance under the threshold may expire at TikTok’s discretion.
Does TikTok pay for likes or followers?
No. TikTok does not pay per like, comment or follower. Followers only matter for eligibility (10,000 for Creator Rewards). Likes and comments may help indirectly, because engagement is one of the signals TikTok says it uses to calculate rewards.
How Much Does TikTok Pay for 1 Million Views?
Using the creator-reported range, 1 million qualified views earns roughly $400 to $1,000 through the Creator Rewards Program.
Compare that with the old Creator Fund. Business Insider reported that creators earned a few cents per 1,000 views from it. One creator it profiled in 2020 made about $0.04 per 1,000 views, and Hank Green reported $0.02 to $0.03 per 1,000 views in 2022. That works out to roughly $20 to $40 per million views. These are creator-reported figures, not official TikTok rates. When TikTok replaced the fund, it said eligible creators could earn up to 20 times what the Creator Fund paid (as reported by TechCrunch). The creator-reported numbers above are consistent with that claim.

My take: $400 to $1,000 for a million views is decent, but it is not a salary. A creator who hits one million qualified views every week might make $1,600 to $4,000 a month from rewards alone. Most full-time creators I talk to on my podcast earn far more from brand deals, affiliate links and their own products than from platform payouts.
How Many Followers on TikTok Do You Need to Get Paid?
It depends on which way you want to get paid. Here are the official thresholds for each TikTok money feature:
| Monetization feature | Followers needed | Other key rules | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| Creator Rewards Program | 10,000 | 100,000 views in 30 days, 18+, 1-minute videos | TikTok Creator Rewards Program Terms |
| Subscription | 10,000 | 100,000 views in the past calendar month (or LIVE eligibility), 18+ | TikTok Newsroom (Sept 2024) |
| Go LIVE | 1,000 (varies by region) | 18+ (19 in South Korea) | TikTok Help Center |
| LIVE Gifts | Must be LIVE-eligible | 18+ (19 in South Korea) | TikTok LIVE Creator Networks (June 2026) |
| TikTok Shop affiliate (US) | 1,000 | 18+, US-based, identity check | TikTok Shop Academy (Oct 2026) |
| TikTok Shop affiliate, full access (US) | 5,000 | At least 30 days in the program | TikTok Shop Academy (Oct 2026) |
| TikTok Pulse ad share | 100,000 | Top 4% of content, 50% revenue share (2022 launch rules) | Business Insider |

So the lowest bar is 1,000 followers, which unlocks LIVE in most regions and TikTok Shop affiliate in the US. The view-based payout needs 10,000.
How and When Does TikTok Pay You?
TikTok’s US terms spell out the payment process:
- Your dashboard shows estimated rewards in US dollars daily.
- Rewards are calculated in the month after you earn them.
- After fees and tax, they are paid on the 15th of each month, if your balance is at least $50.
- In the US, payments go through PayPal (via Hyperwallet) to a payment account in your name.
- You must complete tax forms first, and TikTok can withhold tax where the law requires it.
- If TikTok later finds that you were not eligible, it can deduct the amount from future rewards or ask for a refund within 30 days.

Where Is the TikTok Creator Rewards Program Available?
The program is open in seven countries:
| Country | Creator Rewards available? |
|---|---|
| United States | Yes |
| United Kingdom | Yes |
| Germany | Yes |
| France | Yes |
| Japan | Yes |
| South Korea | Yes |
| Brazil | Yes |
| India | No. TikTok is banned |

You must actually live there. The terms say you cannot use a VPN to appear to be in a supported country.
What about India?
TikTok has been banned in India since June 29, 2020, when the government blocked 59 Chinese apps. As of October 2026, it is still not on the Indian Play Store or App Store, and IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has said there is no proposal to lift the ban (News18).
So if you are an Indian creator, the answer to “how many views on TikTok to get paid” is simple: you cannot get paid by TikTok from India. Your best options are YouTube Shorts and Instagram Reels. I explain the same situation for TikTok’s sister app in my CapCut in India guide.
TikTok Creator Fund vs Creativity Program vs Creator Rewards
TikTok has changed its payout program three times. This is why old articles still quote tiny numbers.
| Program | Years | Video length | How it paid | Reported payout |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Creator Fund | 2020 to 2023 | Any length | Shared fixed pool | About 2 to 4 cents per 1,000 views (creator-reported, Business Insider) |
| Creativity Program Beta | 2023 to 2024 | 1 minute+ | Based on qualified views | Up to 20x the Creator Fund, according to TikTok (reported by TechCrunch) |
| Creator Rewards Program | 2024 to now | 1 minute+ | Qualified views plus watch time, search value, engagement and audience | Commonly reported $0.40 to $1.00 per 1,000 qualified views |
Sources: TikTok Newsroom, TikTok Creator Rewards Program Terms, Business Insider.
TikTok replaced the Creator Fund with the Creativity Program in the US, UK, France and Germany on December 16, 2023. Business Insider reported in January 2024 that the fund was still running in Italy and Spain.
Other Ways TikTok Pays Creators
The Creator Rewards Program is just one income stream. Here is how the others work.
LIVE Gifts
Viewers send virtual Gifts during your LIVE. You collect them as Diamonds, which you can cash out. You must be 18+ (19 in South Korea), be allowed to go LIVE, and live where Gifts are available. Business Insider has reported creators earning anywhere from $20 to $300 per LIVE (ASMR creator Lucy Davis) to $34,000 in one month (Jakey Boehm). I break down the LIVE rules in detail in my guide to the followers needed for TikTok LIVE.
Subscription
Fans pay a monthly fee for perks like subscriber-only videos, LIVEs, badges and chats. You need 10,000 followers and 100,000 views in the past calendar month, or to meet specific LIVE rules, plus age 18+.
TikTok Shop affiliate
You tag products in videos or LIVEs and earn a commission on each sale. In the US you need 1,000 followers, must be 18+ and based in the US, and must pass identity verification. Below 5,000 followers you start in a 30-day pilot with limits on how many shoppable posts you can make.

Business Insider reported that beauty creator Jeneen Sahtout earned just under $6,000 in commissions in one month after driving about $40,000 in sales. As an affiliate marketer myself, this is the stream I would build first. Commission income scales with sales, not with how TikTok values a view.
Brand deals
For most creators, brand deals are still the biggest income source. Rates shared with Business Insider range widely, from $160 per video (about 22,000 followers) to $20,000 per video (about 8.4 million followers).
| Income stream | Followers needed | Paid by | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Creator Rewards | 10,000 | TikTok | Long, original videos |
| LIVE Gifts | 1,000 (most regions) | Viewers | Entertainers, gamers, ASMR |
| Subscription | 10,000 | Fans | Loyal niche communities |
| Shop affiliate (US) | 1,000 | Sellers via commission | Product reviewers |
| Brand deals | No minimum | Brands | Any creator with engagement |
TikTok vs YouTube Shorts: Which Pays Better?
If you are in India, this comparison decides your strategy, because YouTube is fully available here.
| Rule | TikTok Creator Rewards | YouTube Partner Program (Shorts route) |
|---|---|---|
| Followers or subscribers | 10,000 followers | 1,000 subscribers |
| Views | 100,000 in last 30 days | 10 million Shorts views in last 90 days |
| Video length | 1 minute or more | Shorts (short-form) |
| Available in India | No | Yes |
| How you are paid | Rewards based on qualified views and signals | 45% share of the Shorts ad revenue allocated to you |
Sources: TikTok Creator Rewards Program Terms, YouTube Help Center (YouTube Partner Program overview and Shorts monetization policies).

My take: TikTok’s follower bar is higher, but its view bar is far lower than YouTube Shorts. Outside India, I would post the same vertical videos on both. In India, YouTube Shorts and Instagram Reels are your only real options. My Instagram statistics page and my podcast with Milan Smets on running profitable YouTube channels are good next reads.
Why Your TikTok Views Are Not Paying
If you have views but no money, check these in order:
- You are not in the program. Views before joining do not pay.
- Your video is under 1 minute. A 58-second video earns nothing.
- Fewer than 1,000 qualified views. Check qualified views, not total views.
- It is a Duet, Stitch, Photo Mode post or sponsored post. These are excluded.
- Unoriginal content. Reposts and lightly edited clips are filtered out.
- Wrong account type. Business accounts are not eligible.
- You are under $50. Your balance has not reached the payout threshold yet.
- Your account is not in a supported country. Using a VPN breaks the rules.
What These TikTok Numbers Mean for Creators
Here is my honest read as someone who has built income online for more than a decade:
- Views are the weakest way to earn on TikTok. At $0.40 to $1.00 per 1,000, you need huge volume. Use rewards as a bonus, not the plan.
- Watch time is the real currency. One-minute videos that people finish beat viral 10-second clips.
- Own the money that does not depend on TikTok. Affiliate links, your own products and an email list survive policy changes and bans. Indian creators learned that in 2020.
- Diversify platforms. The same video can earn on TikTok, YouTube Shorts and Reels. The data in my TikTok statistics and social media statistics pages shows how big each audience is.
FAQs About Getting Paid on TikTok
How many views do you need on TikTok to get paid?
Each video needs at least 1,000 qualified views to earn Creator Rewards. Before that, your account needs 100,000 views in the last 30 days and 10,000 followers to join the program. Only videos one minute or longer qualify.
How much does TikTok pay per 1,000 views?
TikTok does not publish a fixed rate. Creators commonly report $0.40 to $1.00 per 1,000 qualified views in the Creator Rewards Program. TikTok says rewards depend on views and other signals, which creator guides describe as watch time, search value, engagement, audience location and ad value.
How much does TikTok pay for 1 million views?
At the commonly reported $0.40 to $1.00 per 1,000 qualified views, 1 million qualified views earns about $400 to $1,000. Total views are usually higher than qualified views, so real payouts can be lower.
How many followers do you need to get paid on TikTok?
You need 10,000 followers for the Creator Rewards Program and for Subscription. You need 1,000 followers to go LIVE in most regions and to join TikTok Shop affiliate in the US.
Does TikTok pay for likes?
No. TikTok does not pay for likes, comments or followers directly. Engagement can still raise your rewards indirectly, because TikTok counts engagement among the signals it uses to calculate Creator Rewards.
What is a qualified view on TikTok?
A qualified view is one watched for at least five seconds, not marked “Not interested”, and from a real user. Repeat views from the same account count once, and views TikTok sees as artificial or paid are excluded.
When does TikTok pay creators?
TikTok calculates rewards in the month after you earn them and pays on the 15th of each month, once your balance reaches the $50 minimum. In the US, payouts go through PayPal via Hyperwallet.
Can you get paid on TikTok in India?
No. TikTok has been banned in India since June 2020 and is not on Indian app stores. The Creator Rewards Program is only open in the US, UK, Germany, France, Japan, South Korea and Brazil, and using a VPN breaks the rules.
Final Take: Views Are Step One, Not the Business
To get paid for views on TikTok, you need 10,000 followers, 100,000 views in 30 days, one-minute original videos and at least 1,000 qualified views per video. Expect roughly $0.40 to $1.00 per 1,000 qualified views, and remember the $50 minimum payout.
My advice: treat Creator Rewards as a bonus. Build affiliate income, brand deals and your own audience on more than one platform. And if you are in India, put that energy into YouTube Shorts and Reels.
