Is Roblox Shutting Down Today?
No. Roblox is working normally today. When I checked the official Roblox status page on October 12, 2026, every listed service, from the website and mobile app to Studio and asset delivery, showed “Operational.”
People often confuse two different things:
- An outage is when Roblox stops working for a few minutes or hours. It happens to every big online service. Players see login errors or games that will not load, and then it comes back.
- A shutdown would mean Roblox closing the platform for good. That has never been announced, and nothing in Roblox’s financial filings points to it.
If Roblox will not load for you, check the official status page first. A red banner there means an outage, not the end of Roblox.
Roblox is also still shipping new things. In the week of October 5, 2026 alone, its developer forum announced Studio beta features for animation graphs, licensed IP avatar items for creators, and automatic text-to-speech translation. A company planning to close does not launch new creator tools every week.

The December 2025 post is a good example of how to spot a fake. Lead Stories pointed out that the “official announcement” image misspelled both “announcement” and “decision,” and the account’s own bio called it parody Roblox news.
Why the rumor keeps coming back
From an SEO point of view, “is Roblox shutting down” is a classic panic query. It spikes every time a fake post goes viral, a country blocks the game, or Roblox has a long outage. Three things keep feeding it:
- Real bans in some countries. A child in Qatar or Türkiye really did lose access. Kids elsewhere see those headlines and assume it is global.
- Big safety changes. Mandatory age checks for chat, new child accounts and chat being switched off in parts of the Middle East feel like “Roblox is ending” to some players.
- Lawsuits. Headlines about US states suing Roblox are easy to misread as “Roblox is getting banned.”
How to tell if a Roblox shutdown post is fake
- Check the source. A real announcement would come from Roblox’s newsroom, its investor relations site or its verified X account. Anything else is a rumor.
- Look for a “parody” label. Many of these accounts say it in their name or bio.
- Look for typos and odd dates. Both big hoaxes picked a round date (September 1, January 1) and had spelling errors.
- Search the news. A shutdown of a company with over 100 million daily users would be front-page business news within minutes. If no major outlet reports it, it did not happen.

Latest: Iraq re-blocks Roblox (October 2026)
This is the freshest ban news. On September 28, 2026, Iraq’s Communications Minister Mustafa Sand said the Roblox ban would return from the evening of October 3, 2026, because the grace period granted for the summer school holidays had ended. He said the ministry was carrying out a decision by a judge of Baghdad’s Second Karkh Investigation Court.
On October 4, 2026, the minister added that Roblox had agreed to all security requirements, including preventing chat and monitoring violations. He said the ban would continue for only one week before Roblox could reopen under rules meant to protect Iraqi families. As of October 12, 2026, I have not seen official confirmation that access is back, so treat Iraq as “blocked for now.”
Chat is still off in much of the Middle East
Even where Roblox is not banned, many Arabic-speaking players cannot chat. Roblox switched off in-game chat across Arabic-speaking countries in the Middle East in 2025 after talks with regulators. In April 2026, Roblox’s chief safety officer, Matt Kaufman, told The National that chat will stay off until its Arabic safety technology improves, with no timeline to restore it.
Is Roblox Getting Banned in the US?
No. Roblox is not banned in the United States, and no US law bans it. But it faces the most legal pressure it has ever had, all about child safety.

Lawsuits and investigations can end in fines, settlements or stricter rules. They do not usually shut down a platform with this many users. The likely outcome is more age checks and limits on how adults and children can talk, which Roblox has already started doing.
Roblox says it filed 65,381 reports of suspected child exploitation with the US National Center for Missing and Exploited Children in 2025, more than double 2024. Roblox says this reflects better detection, not more abuse.
Is Roblox Losing Players?
Roblox has fewer daily users than its 2025 peak, but far more than a few years ago. It averaged 123 million daily active users (DAUs) in Q2 2026. That is 10% more than a year earlier and more than three times the 37.1 million it had in Q4 2020.

So why the drop since the record? Roblox gave three reasons in its Q2 2026 shareholder letter:
- 2025 had huge viral hits like Grow a Garden, which pushed summer numbers to a record.
- Russia blocked Roblox from December 2025 to June 2026. Roblox says this was still a 3 percentage point drag on DAU growth in Q2 2026.
- Safety changes add friction, especially mandatory age checks for chat.
Roblox also said it expects a sequential increase in DAUs in Q3 2026. We will know on October 29, 2026.
Is Roblox Going Bankrupt?
No. Roblox is a large public company (NYSE: RBLX) with plenty of cash. Its Q2 2026 numbers show a business that is growing revenue and producing cash, even though spending per hour has slowed.

The weak spot is bookings. Roblox guided Q3 2026 bookings to fall 14% to 18% year over year, because players moved from the high-spending viral games of 2025 to games that earn less per hour. That is a growth problem for investors. It is not a sign that the platform is closing.
What Is Roblox Actually Changing?
Roblox is not shutting down, but it is changing a lot, mostly to satisfy regulators. These changes explain much of the confusion.
- Age checks for chat. Since January 2026, users need a facial age estimate or ID check to use chat. By the end of Q2 2026, 57% of daily users had completed an age check.
- New accounts for kids. In June 2026, Roblox launched Roblox Kids (ages 5 to 8) and Roblox Select (ages 9 to 15) worldwide. Users who skip the age check get a narrower version of Roblox with no chat.
- Chat off in parts of the Middle East. In-game chat stays disabled in Arabic-speaking countries in the region.
- Country deals. In Russia, Jordan and Kuwait, access came back after Roblox agreed to local rules, often including turning chat off.
- Fewer cross-game sales. Roblox turned off cross-experience game pass sales and changed its recommendations to favor games people stick with.
Could Roblox Ever Shut Down?
My honest view: a full shutdown in the next few years is very unlikely. Roblox produces positive free cash flow, has billions in the bank, and still pulls more than 100 million people a day. Platforms of that size do not switch off overnight.
The realistic risks are different, and smaller:
- More country blocks, mainly in the Middle East and Asia, where regulators want tighter control over chat.
- Fines or settlements from US lawsuits and the reported FTC investigation.
- Stricter age rules that add friction and slow growth, as happened in early 2026.
