As of 2026, X (formerly Twitter) had about 550 million monthly active users across X and Grok as of March 31, 2026, according to SpaceX’s IPO prospectus filed with the SEC. That is the first audited-filing user number since Twitter went private in 2022. X’s advertising revenue was $1.84 billion in 2025.
Last updated: October 11, 2026. Next update: after SpaceX reports Q3 2026 results (expected November 2026).

Key Twitter (X) Statistics (Editor’s Pick)
- 550 million monthly active users across X and Grok combined, March 31, 2026 (up from 520 million on Dec 31, 2025) [SpaceX prospectus, June 2026].
- 117 million of those MAUs used Grok’s AI features, March 31, 2026 [SpaceX prospectus].
- 1.3 billion supported accounts were active at least once in the 12 months to March 31, 2026 [SpaceX prospectus].
- About 350 million daily posts on X [SpaceX prospectus].
- 4.4 million paid X Premium subscribers (Basic, Premium and Premium+), March 31, 2026 [SpaceX prospectus].
- $1.844 billion in advertising revenue in 2025, up from $1.728 billion in 2024 but down from $2.323 billion in 2023 [SpaceX prospectus].
- $367 million in advertising revenue in Q2 2026, down 14% from $426 million a year earlier [SpaceX Form 10-Q, Aug 2026].
- 450 million people reachable with X ads in April 2026, down from 611 million in April 2024 [DataReportal, Digital 2026 Mid-Year].
- 21% of U.S. adults use X, and 10% use it daily [Pew Research Center, Nov 2025].
- 241.5 million followers on @elonmusk, the most-followed account, Oct 11, 2026 [X API].
How Many People Use Twitter (X) in 2026?
The latest official figure is about 550 million monthly active users (MAUs) across X and Grok, measured on March 31, 2026. SpaceX disclosed it in the S-1 it filed on May 20, 2026 and repeated it in the final prospectus dated June 12, 2026.
Read that number carefully. It is a combined figure for two products. SpaceX defines an MAU as a user who interacted with Grok or X through a browser or app at least once in the 30 days before the measurement date, and says it tries to remove duplicates across the two platforms. There is no separate number for X alone.
| Date | Metric | Value | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mar 31, 2026 | MAUs, X + Grok combined | ~550 million | SpaceX prospectus (Jun 2026) |
| Dec 31, 2025 | MAUs, X + Grok combined | ~520 million | SpaceX prospectus (Jun 2026) |
| Mar 31, 2026 | MAUs using Grok features | ~117 million | SpaceX prospectus |
| Dec 31, 2025 | MAUs using Grok features | ~89 million | SpaceX prospectus |
| 12 months to Mar 31, 2026 | Supported accounts active at least once | ~1.3 billion | SpaceX prospectus |
My take: 550 million is a big number, but it is a monthly number that now includes Grok. If you are planning ads or content, treat it as the ceiling, not the daily crowd you will actually reach.

Twitter (X) Daily Active Users
There is no official current daily active user number for X. The SpaceX filings report monthly users only.
The last audited daily figure is 237.8 million monetizable daily active users (mDAU) for the quarter ended June 30, 2022. That was Twitter’s final quarter as a public company. mDAU only counted logged-in users who could be shown ads, so it is not the same as “everyone who opened the app”.
| Quarter | Monetizable DAU (mDAU) | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Q4 2019 | 152 million | Twitter 10-K 2019 |
| Q4 2020 | 192 million | Twitter 10-K 2020 |
| Q4 2021 | 217 million | Twitter 10-K 2021 |
| Q1 2022 | 229.0 million | Twitter 10-Q, Q1 2022 |
| Q2 2022 | 237.8 million | Twitter 10-Q, Q2 2022 |

What about the “300 million daily users” you see quoted? Elon Musk posted in May 2024 that X had about 600 million monthly and 300 million daily users. Those were posts, not filings. The audited number two years later (550 million MAU, including Grok) came in below his monthly claim. Third-party trackers estimate daily use too. Sensor Tower told TheWrap that X had about 217 million daily users in mid-2025, down about 10% year over year. Treat that as an estimate.
How often Americans use X
Pew Research Center found that 10% of U.S. adults use X daily. Among U.S. adults who use X at all, 30% use it several times a day and 18% about once a day (survey of 5,123 adults, Feb 24 to Mar 2, 2025).
Twitter (X) Revenue Statistics
X’s revenue now sits inside the AI segment of SpaceX, together with xAI. In 2023 and 2024, SpaceX says substantially all AI segment revenue came from X (ads, subscriptions and data licensing). From 2025 onward, the segment also includes Grok subscriptions and other xAI revenue.
The cleanest X-only line is advertising revenue, because the ads run on X.
| Year | Advertising revenue | Subscriptions, data licensing and other AI revenue | Total AI segment revenue |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2023 | $2,323 million | $638 million | $2,961 million |
| 2024 | $1,728 million | $892 million | $2,620 million |
| 2025 | $1,844 million | $1,357 million | $3,201 million |
Source: SpaceX prospectus (June 12, 2026), revenue by segment table.

For context, Twitter’s own last full year as a public company was 2021. It reported $5.08 billion in revenue, including $4.51 billion from advertising (Twitter Form 10-K for 2021). So X’s 2025 ad revenue was about 59% below Twitter’s 2021 ad revenue.
| Year | Twitter total revenue | Twitter ad revenue | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2019 | $3.46 billion | $2.99 billion | Twitter 10-K 2019 |
| 2020 | $3.72 billion | $3.21 billion | Twitter 10-K 2020 |
| 2021 | $5.08 billion | $4.51 billion | Twitter 10-K 2021 |
X revenue in 2026 so far
| Period | Advertising revenue | Year-over-year change | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| Q1 2026 | $343 million | down from $443 million (-23%) | SpaceX prospectus |
| Q2 2026 | $367 million | down from $426 million (-14%) | SpaceX 10-Q, Q2 2026 |
| H1 2026 | $710 million | down from $870 million (-18%) | SpaceX 10-Q, Q2 2026 |
SpaceX explained the Q1 drop: “an overhaul of the Company’s advertising platform which impacted ad sales for a short period of time during the rebuild.” The other side of the segment is growing fast. Grok and X subscription revenue rose by $177 million year over year in Q1 2026, and total AI segment revenue hit $2.56 billion in Q2 2026. That jump is mostly xAI, not X.
My take: ads on X are still smaller than they were in 2023. The growth story is subscriptions and AI. If you sell to advertisers, that matters.

Twitter (X) Paid Subscribers
| Date | X Premium paid subscribers | SuperGrok paid subscribers | Total paid |
|---|---|---|---|
| Dec 31, 2025 | ~4.1 million | ~0.9 million | ~4.9 million |
| Mar 31, 2026 | ~4.4 million | ~1.9 million | ~6.3 million |
Source: SpaceX prospectus (June 2026). X Premium includes Premium Basic, Premium and Premium+.
That is a 7% quarter-on-quarter rise for X Premium and a doubling for SuperGrok. Still, 4.4 million paying users out of 550 million MAUs is under 1%. Most people use X for free.
Twitter (X) Advertising Reach
DataReportal pulls ad reach from X’s own ad planning tools. It reported that X’s potential ad reach fell from 611 million in April 2024 to 450 million in April 2026, a drop of more than a quarter.
| Period | X potential ad reach | Source |
|---|---|---|
| April 2024 | 611 million | DataReportal |
| April 2026 | 450 million | DataReportal, Digital 2026 Mid-Year Global Update |

Ad reach is not the same as users. It counts people advertisers can target, which excludes some ages, regions and logged-out users. That is why it is lower than 550 million.
X ad audience by country
DataReportal’s latest country-level breakdown for X, taken from X’s own ad tools, is from January 2025. The United States is X’s largest ad market, followed by Japan, Indonesia, India and the UK. DataReportal has not published an updated country list with its April 2026 total, so treat these as the most recent country figures available, not current ones.
| Rank | Country | X ad reach (January 2025) |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | United States | 104 million |
| 2 | Japan | 70.9 million |
| 3 | Indonesia | 25.2 million |
| 4 | India | 24.1 million |
| 5 | United Kingdom | 22.9 million |
| 6 | Germany | 21.6 million |
| 7 | Turkey | 19.7 million |
| 8 | Mexico | 16.9 million |
| 9 | Brazil | 16.0 million |
| 10 | Saudi Arabia | 15.7 million |
Source: DataReportal (Kepios), analysis of X’s advertising tools, January 2025. In the same data, about 63.7% of X’s ad audience was male and 36.3% female.
Twitter (X) User Demographics
The best demographic data for X comes from Pew Research Center’s U.S. surveys. These cover U.S. adults only.
| Group | Share who use X | Source |
|---|---|---|
| All U.S. adults | 21% | Pew, 2025 |
| Men | 25% | Pew, 2025 |
| Women | 16% | Pew, 2025 |
| Ages 18-29 | 33% | Pew, 2025 |
| Ages 30-49 | 25% | Pew, 2025 |
| Ages 50-64 | 16% | Pew, 2025 |
| Ages 65+ | 10% | Pew, 2025 |
| Republicans and leaners | 24% | Pew, 2025 |
| Democrats and leaners | 19% | Pew, 2025 |

Twitter users by age
Younger adults are the core. A third of Americans aged 18 to 29 use X, versus 10% of those 65 and older. Daily use follows the same pattern: 18% of 18 to 29 year olds use X daily, versus 4% of those 65 and older.
Twitter users by gender
Men are more likely to use X (25%) than women (16%). The daily gap is bigger: 15% of men use X every day, versus 6% of women.
X users by political party
This one flipped. Pew found that 24% of Republicans now use X, compared with 19% of Democrats. Two years earlier it was the other way round, 26% of Democrats versus 20% of Republicans.
How X users feel about it
In Pew’s 2025 survey of X users, 37% said their experience was mostly positive, 23% mostly negative, and 40% neither (Pew topline, survey Feb 24 to Mar 2, 2025).
Twitter (X) Usage Statistics
| Metric | Value | Date | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| Daily posts on X | ~350 million | 2026 | SpaceX prospectus |
| Accounts active in last 12 months | ~1.3 billion | Mar 31, 2026 | SpaceX prospectus |
| U.S. adults who use X daily | 10% | 2025 | Pew |
| U.S. X users who use it several times a day | 30% | 2025 | Pew |

SpaceX’s definition of “daily posts” includes original posts, replies, reposts, quotes and media, plus Grok interactions, and it may include posts generated by AI or AI-managed accounts. So do not read 350 million as 350 million humans typing tweets.
Most Followed Accounts on Twitter (X)
I pulled these follower counts straight from the X API on October 11, 2026.
| Rank | Account | Handle | Followers (Oct 11, 2026) |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Elon Musk | @elonmusk | 241.5 million |
| 2 | Barack Obama | @BarackObama | 118.9 million |
| 3 | Cristiano Ronaldo | @Cristiano | 114.6 million |
| 4 | Donald J. Trump | @realDonaldTrump | 111.8 million |
| 5 | Narendra Modi | @narendramodi | 107.1 million |
| 6 | Rihanna | @rihanna | 98.7 million |
| 7 | NASA | @NASA | 92.3 million |
| 8 | Justin Bieber | @justinbieber | 91.8 million |
| 9 | Katy Perry | @katyperry | 90.0 million |
| 10 | Taylor Swift | @taylorswift13 | 84.0 million |
| 11 | Lady Gaga | @ladygaga | 75.5 million |
| 12 | Virat Kohli | @imVkohli | 73.5 million |
| 13 | Kim Kardashian | @KimKardashian | 70.9 million |
| 14 | YouTube | @YouTube | 68.8 million |
| 15 | Neymar Jr | @neymarjr | 66.5 million |

Two Indian accounts sit in the top 15: Prime Minister Narendra Modi (5th) and Virat Kohli (12th). @PMOIndia adds another 58.4 million. If you market to India, those numbers tell you X still matters for news, politics and cricket.
X and Grok: Why the Numbers Are Now Combined
X is no longer a standalone company. Here is the chain.
- March 28, 2025: xAI merged with X Holdings (the “X Merger”).
- February 2, 2026: SpaceX acquired xAI, which included X (the “xAI Merger”).
- June 2026: SpaceX went public on Nasdaq (ticker SPCX), with X reported inside the AI segment.
Grok is built into X and uses X posts as a real-time data source. SpaceX calls that “proprietary access to a real-time information stream of approximately 350 million daily posts”. That is why the company reports one MAU number for both.

Why Twitter (X) Numbers Don’t Match Across Sites
You will see 335 million, 550 million, 557 million, 600 million and 611 million in different articles. Here is what each one usually is.
| Number you see | What it really is | Trust level |
|---|---|---|
| 550 million | MAUs across X + Grok, Mar 31, 2026, SEC filing | High (audited filing) |
| 600 million MAU / 300 million DAU | Elon Musk’s posts (May 2024) | Low (claim, no filing) |
| 611 million / 450 million | Ad reach in X’s ad tools, Apr 2024 / Apr 2026 (DataReportal) | Medium (ad audience, not users) |
| 557 million | Third-party “MAU” estimates in stats roundups | Low (no primary source) |
| 237.8 million | mDAU, Q2 2022, last public quarter | High, but 4 years old |
| 217 million daily | Sensor Tower estimate, mid-2025 | Medium (estimate) |
My rule: when a founder’s post and an SEC filing disagree, go with the filing.
Is Twitter (X) Dying?
No, but it is not growing like it used to either. Here is what the data says.
- Users are stable to slightly up on the combined measure: 520 million MAUs at the end of 2025, 550 million three months later, with Grok adding a lot of that.
- Ad reach is down more than a quarter in two years (611 million to 450 million).
- Ad revenue is down 18% in the first half of 2026 versus 2025.
- Subscriptions are up, with X Premium at 4.4 million and total paid subscribers at 6.3 million.
- U.S. reach is steady at 21% of adults, but the audience has shifted right politically.
What These Numbers Mean for Marketers and Creators
Here is how I read it after 12 years in SEO and digital marketing.
- X is a news and conversation network, not a mass-reach ad channel. 10% of U.S. adults use it daily. That is a concentrated, high-intent crowd of journalists, founders, investors and tech people.
- For B2B, SaaS, AI and crypto, X still punches above its weight. These communities live there, and Grok pulls from X posts in real time.
- For broad consumer reach, budget elsewhere first. X’s ad reach of 450 million is below YouTube, Facebook, TikTok and Instagram (see my social media statistics).
- Organic still works if you post consistently. 350 million daily posts means competition, so replies, threads and video beat one-off link drops.
- Track your own numbers. Platform-level stats tell you the size of the pond. Your analytics tell you if your audience is in it.
If you want the bigger picture, compare X with Facebook statistics, Instagram statistics and TikTok statistics. For video planning, see my video marketing statistics.

How many daily active users does X have?
There is no official current figure. The last audited number is 237.8 million monetizable daily active users in Q2 2022. Sensor Tower estimated about 217 million daily users in mid-2025, and Pew found that 10% of U.S. adults use X daily.

X’s advertising revenue was $1.844 billion in 2025 and $710 million in the first half of 2026, per SpaceX filings. SpaceX’s total AI segment, which includes X and xAI, generated $3.2 billion in 2025 and $2.56 billion in Q2 2026 alone.
About 4.4 million people paid for X Premium Basic, Premium or Premium+ as of March 31, 2026, up from 4.1 million at the end of 2025. Including SuperGrok, X and Grok had about 6.3 million paid subscribers, according to SpaceX’s prospectus.
Who has the most followers on X?
Elon Musk, with 241.5 million followers on October 11, 2026, per the X API. Barack Obama (118.9 million), Cristiano Ronaldo (114.6 million), Donald Trump (111.8 million) and Narendra Modi (107.1 million) complete the top five.
Who owns Twitter (X) now?
X is owned by SpaceX. xAI merged with X on March 28, 2025, and SpaceX acquired xAI, including X, on February 2, 2026. SpaceX listed on Nasdaq in June 2026, so X’s numbers now appear in SpaceX’s SEC filings.
What percentage of Americans use X?
21% of U.S. adults use X, according to Pew Research Center’s 2025 survey, published November 20, 2025. Usage is highest among adults aged 18 to 29 (33%) and among men (25% versus 16% of women).
Is X losing users?
The combined X and Grok MAU count grew from about 520 million to 550 million between December 2025 and March 2026. But X’s ad reach fell from 611 million to 450 million between April 2024 and April 2026, and ad revenue fell 18% in H1 2026.
Final Take
X in 2026 is smaller as an ad business and bigger as an AI data engine. The first audited numbers in four years show about 550 million monthly users across X and Grok, 4.4 million X Premium subscribers and $1.84 billion in 2025 ad revenue. That is well below Twitter’s 2021 peak of $4.51 billion in ads. For marketers, X is a niche, high-signal channel for tech, news, crypto and B2B. It is not where I would put my first rupee for mass consumer reach. I will update this page as soon as SpaceX reports its next quarter.
