How do you get a startup noticed when there are more products than good marketers? 🤔
At WordCamp Asia 2026, I reconnected with growth hacker Rohan Chaubey for this episode of Inside A Hustler’s Brain. I first interviewed him when he was about 20; now he’s around 31 and still helping startups and products grow. 🚀
Rohan shared what’s actually working today, from Reddit and GEO to influencer campaigns with seven-figure budgets. 💡

- 🎤 India’s most-watched WordCamp talk
- 🧩 The first growth principle in the AI era
- 🔍 Rohan’s Reddit + Product Hunt GEO playbook
- 🎭 Astroturfing, done helpfully

🎤 India’s Most-Watched WordCamp Talk
Rohan spoke at WordCamp Mumbai, and his talk became India’s most-watched WordCamp video ever. Sort WordPress’s YouTube channel by popular, and it’s the only Indian video you’ll see. 📺
He was afraid AI tools like Lovable and Claude might push WordPress aside, but he says WordPress still holds its niche. He’s excited about WordPress’s new CLI: you can now build your own plugins and themes with AI, so sites no longer look like the same template on 10 different websites. 🛠️

🧩 The First Growth Principle in the AI Era
“The game has changed.” Rohan used to start with product features. Now the first questions are: What is the product? Who are you building for? Why are you different? Positioning, messaging and differentiation matter more than ever. 🎯
Design matters too. “I can copy features, I can copy everything of you,” but not your design thinking, UI, UX and overall feel. With so many options, the stress is now on the experience, not just utility. 🎨
🔍 Rohan’s Reddit + Product Hunt GEO Playbook
GEO today feels like the early years of SEO, when people tried anything until things got patched. Rohan mainly helps companies with GEO through Product Hunt and Reddit. 🧭
Reddit does three things at once:
- 👥 Access to the community hanging out there
- 📈 Google favours Reddit, so you get indexed in the SERPs
- 🤖 LLMs scrape Reddit and the SERPs, so you show up in LLM citations
As a Reddit moderator, he’s seen the traffic shift firsthand. His community has about 140,000 members and 2.5 million in traffic, “and I’m doing nothing. It’s just coming in from Google.” 📊

🎭 Astroturfing, Done Helpfully
Rohan’s Reddit approach: find the keywords and questions a brand wants to rank for, since questions matter as much as keywords for LLM citations. Build a comprehensive bank of the questions people ask in the niche. 📝
Then he uses what he openly calls astroturfing: one account asks a question, another answers it, and the brand is naturally mentioned. It looks somewhat promotional, but it’s helpful enough to get indexed and seen. 🎭
Direct promotion isn’t encouraged, he says as a moderator. But if a brand provides real value, “it’s good for everybody”: the brand gets visibility, the platform gets answers, and users get real discussion. ✅
📣 Running a $1.5M Influencer Campaign
AI launches have made marketing look like DeFi and crypto marketing: build hype first, then move to long-term channels. Influencers are central to that. 🔥
Rohan recently ran a campaign with a $1.5 million budget. Finding good creators was hard. “When we scroll our feeds, we think every other person is a creator,” but few create real value. Indian agencies he asked didn’t have international creators, so he scraped social platforms and built the outreach pipeline himself. 🔎
He found around 250 creators with at least 10,000 followers and still couldn’t spend the full budget. Next, he’s adding micro-influencers, because the more people talk about a brand, the more it gets picked up by LLMs. 📢
🎥 The $70K YouTube Video
Rates ranged from about $150 at the low end to $70,000 for a single YouTube video from a creator with over a million subscribers, who put real effort and creativity into the content. “He definitely deserved it.” 💰
On the flip side, some creators make “AI slop,” and brands still hire them as part of the hype machine. The algorithm is partly to blame: one viral reel brings 100K followers, but the rest of the content doesn’t work. 🤷
It’s now about consistent creativity and acting like a media company. Rohan does Product Hunt launches every day, and the more launches he does, the higher his booking rates. For more on creators, read Milan Smets on profitable YouTube channels. 🎬
⚡ Hype Channels vs. Long-Term Channels
Rohan sorts channels into free vs. paid, organic vs. inorganic, and short-term vs. long-term. His formula:
- ⚡ One hype activity a month: a Product Hunt launch, influencer campaign, newsletter placement or PR
- 🌱 Long-term channels running constantly: SEO, community building and content
“SEO is not going anywhere.” But you need spikes to stay relevant; look at how relevant Midjourney once was, and where it is now. 📈
He has a bias for Google, having helped launch some of its products, and sees Anthropic as the second clear winner, while OpenAI and Apple are making their own moves. “We now have more products than good marketers,” so distribution is the key. 🔑
I shared my own example: my content team went from about 20 people to two, led by a team member who’s been with me for 7–8 years and knows how to use Claude. Rohan’s point: it isn’t just AI. Her experience, thinking and SOPs, translated through AI, are the real differentiator. 🤝
💰 Rohan’s Lessons on Money, Advice and Processes
Rohan doesn’t like talking about money, but his last quarter was around ₹1 crore. He only knew because of his GST filing. 📊
His best advice, given to himself: learn from people who’ve been there, collaborate with people at your stage, and teach those just starting. 🧑🏫
The worst advice: do everything others do. He wrote a book and marketed it the conventional way, and was told he needed a website and a public presence. Today he has no website, still uses Gmail, and gets leads only from his community and relationships. “Find your own unique way to operate.” 🛤️
His financial advice: don’t look at your bank account. Instead of chasing revenue targets, make your processes so strong that working with you feels like a smooth factory process, from onboarding to delivery. Improve your processes, relationships, community and knowledge, “and the rest will be taken care of.” He’d spend a day with Elon Musk first, then Warren Buffett. ⚙️
