✈️ Leaving Germany on a Round-the-World Ticket

About ten years earlier, Julia had a well-paying job at a communication agency in Munich but felt empty. “Life is not all about making money for other people.” ✈️

She bought a round-the-world ticket for a few months, and it turned into her life. 🌍

Her former agency’s clients then asked her to work for them remotely. That’s when she realized she could work from the road, and she’s done it for more than eight years. 💻

🤝 Teamwork With Her Partner

Her number one tip: the right partner. They constantly “throw the ball” on who takes the kids and whose project has priority. 🤝

They met in the desert of Chile under the stars. Neither knew digital nomads existed. They grew into this mindset together, despite family asking when they’d settle down. ✨

They argue daily, she laughs, and their different native languages (German and Spanish) add to it. But “I would be bored to death with a normal person.” ❤️

🎓 Why She’s Exploring Unschooling

Through traveling families, Julia discovered unschooling and free learning. 🎓

She doesn’t like young kids sitting still for 45 minutes learning things they may not care about. She prefers letting them pick interests and helping them explore. 🌱

Both parents have university degrees, but everything is available online, so school isn’t the only path. For another take on learning by doing, read Jay Kapoor on skills over degrees. 🔗

💰 Her Multiple Income Streams

Julia has several income streams:

  • 💼 Social media marketing consulting and coaching, her main income
  • 📝 A blog with sponsored posts, ads and affiliate marketing
  • 📘 An ebook and an online course on social media marketing, which she also taught at a digital university in Germany

Her husband, an aquaculture engineer, taught himself web design on the road. “You can start today and be ready in a year.” For more remote-life inspiration, read Celinne Da Costa on designing your life. 🔗

👩‍👧 Advice for Moms Who Want This Life

“You won’t be a perfect mom, nor a perfect businesswoman.” Relax, remember your why, and keep a sense of humor. 😄

She works when the kids nap or her husband is free, sometimes 30 minutes, sometimes two hours, sometimes at night. “It’s not easy, but it’s doable, and it’s worth it.” 🌙

Her motivation is remembering her past: she never wants to go back to a 9-to-5. In 2020, she wanted to take her business to the next level. She follows Gary Vee, but spends most of her time working. For more, read Sara Al Madani’s advice for moms. 💪
