One reel about a cheap perfume got 100 million+ impressions and gave a store a 300% sales jump in a week. 📈
I sat down with my old friend Jay Kapoor from Delhi, a 24-year-old tech creator with almost half a million YouTube subscribers and a big Instagram following. We first met about six years earlier at his Noida flat. 🎙️
He’s the breadwinner for his family and has no college degree. We talked about how he started, brand deals, his biggest failure, haters and AI. 💡

📱 How Jay Got Started
Jay creates content on technology tips and tricks, AI tools and anything useful. 📱
It started with curiosity. He watched tech YouTubers like MKBHD and thought, “I figured out how to do this on my phone. Let me tell the world.” 💡
His family was relaxed: if you can make enough to support yourself, go ahead. He did his schooling and skipped college. “Real-world skills will outweigh paper knowledge any day.” 🎓
He has no idols. He stays updated daily on Hacker News, Product Hunt and tech news sites. For another creator path, read Kushagra Kalra on faceless YouTube channels. 🔗
💰 Brand Deals and Investing in Himself
His main income is brand sponsorships. His biggest deal paid “enough to buy any luxury car in India.” 💰
His best investment was in himself: moving out of the family home and renting his own place for about ₹60,000–1 lakh, which he says returned 50–100x. 🏠
The upside of influence is distribution: you can create and market products, like courses, almost for free. 📣
🚀 The Reel That Got 100M+ Impressions
In Dubai, Jay found Masafi perfume, which he learned was cricketer Harbhajan Singh’s favorite. It cost 10–20 dirhams but looked like a ₹5,000 gift. 🧴
His reel calling it great value got 18–20 million views on Instagram, millions on Facebook and 100M+ impressions overall. The store owner called to say sales jumped 300% in a week from that one video. 🚀
As I shared, one client can change your life too. My first $650 payment for writing product reviews felt like magic to my family. For more on YouTube income, read Darrel Wilson’s YouTube tips. 🔗
😔 His Biggest Failure: A Two-Year Break
Jay took a long break from 2017 to 2019 and did nothing. It wasn’t personal; it was loneliness and a lack of like-minded, motivating people. 😔
The lesson: surround yourself with people on the same mission. “You are the average of the five people you hang out with.” 👥
His productivity hack: create forward momentum with a walk, run, drive, shower, healthy meal or coffee. ☕
🛡️ Fame, Privacy and Haters
The downside of fame is privacy. People recognize you even when you just want to be alone. 🛡️
On haters: “I have developed this thick skin by creating content on the internet for so long that I don’t care anymore.” Ignoring them protects your productivity. 🙉
His best compliments are about impact, when someone says something he said changed their life. ❤️
🤖 AI and Advice for 18-Year-Olds
AI will impact many sectors. For example, a two-camera podcast edit can be automated. But “nobody will lose anything unless they don’t upgrade.” AI will take the jobs of lazy people. 🤖
His advice:
- 🎯 Pick a niche, entertainment or information, and just start. Nobody is perfect on day one
- 📱 You don’t need an iPhone. A basic smartphone works
- 💵 Don’t aim for a million first. Aim for $500–600 via a Shopify store, affiliate marketing, content writing or video editing
- ⏳ Don’t pressure yourself about age. The KFC founder started around 60
- 🔁 Don’t live the same day every day. Keep experimenting
With his last $10,000, he’d rent an office, hire five to seven people and test an idea, and if that failed, go back to creating content. For more on AI and careers, read Kulwant Nagi on rebuilding with AI. 🔗
