🌱 How I Got Into SEO

In 2012, after engineering and my first job, a best friend asked me to do SEO. I had to Google “what is SEO.” 🌱

By my second job, I had the idea to start my own site, BloggersIdeas, where I write about SEO, interviews and case studies. I was inspired by people like Neil Patel, Rand Fishkin and John Chow earning from affiliate marketing. 💡

At the time, after recent Google updates, BloggersIdeas was getting around half a million visits a month. 📈

⚖️ The 60/40 Content Ratio

Google values information sites. If you run an affiliate site, aim for about 60% information content and 40% reviews, coupons and affiliate content. ⚖️

Present your site as a company or agency rather than a pure affiliate site, and you’ll earn more of Google’s trust. 🏢

🌐 Fresh vs Expired Domains

Beginners: buy a fresh domain and learn on-page SEO first. 🌱

Pros: expired domains work well because they already have authority, trust and backlinks, so rankings come faster. Quality ones cost $5,000–10,000, and that year I’d invested ₹20–30 lakh in them. Some failed, some worked. 🌐

🔗 When Backlinks Matter

“90% of SEO is content and backlinks.” Focus on on-page, content and internal linking until you have about 1,000 organic visits, then focus on backlinks. 🔗

Nobody gives backlinks for free, so negotiate and offer value. When I had no money, I did interviews with big speakers at events, which earned me links. For more on link building, read Steven from WhitePress on backlinks. 🔗

🔍 Reverse Engineering and Patience

If you’re stuck, reverse-engineer competitors ranking above you: their content, FAQs, schema, site speed and mobile-friendliness. 🔍

The big mistake is chasing short-term money. SEO is a long game. With a year of intense focus, research and reverse engineering, I believe you can start making about $1,000 profit the next year. ⏳

👥 Hiring by Referral and Networking

I built a team of about 20 people through referrals, like my best friend Piyush’s sister. Most people never ask for help, but if you show courage, people come. 👥

SOPs, HR and managers let me step back from every meeting. Three years earlier, it was too stressful and affected my personal life. 🧩
