🚀 From Client SEO to a 50-Person Domain Company
Kalin started SEO 12 years ago, doing client SEO and building traffic websites. One site reached 15,000 unique visitors a day. 📈
As Google updates made things more complicated and his team ran into penalties, they gradually moved into finding expired domains for PBNs, real sites, and other link building. Today SEO.domains has gone from an SEO company to a domain company with 50 people. 🏢
🔎 How to Find the Right Domain
SEO.domains has a big list you can sort and filter. It focuses mostly on country domains, which Kalin says are still undervalued, so you can get them at a great price compared to .com. 💰
Niche relevance matters, especially if the domain will be a money site. For a PBN, it’s “not super important.” 🎯

📏 Reading DA, Trust Flow and DR Correctly
There are three main metric providers, and each has pros and cons:
- 📊 Moz DA: the most stable metric and harder to manipulate with spam. A very low DA is bad and 50 is good, but it doesn’t tell you exactly how good a domain is. Some average domains reach 25–30.
- 🧮 Majestic Trust Flow and Citation Flow: lots of referring domains and Citation Flow with very low Trust Flow usually means spam. But good domains can have low Trust Flow, even zero, so read it together with Citation Flow and referring domains.
- 📰 Ahrefs DR: useful, but it’s calculated for the whole domain. A site with lots of media links may show a low DR and still be good, while a web design studio with a few sitewide outgoing links can hit DR 30–40 without being special.
His advice: look at DR in context, including the niche and the types of links. 🧠

↪️ Smarter 301 Redirects
301 redirects still work, but most people have adapted to Google’s changes and now do them smartly, not just straight to the homepage. ↪️
- 📝 Put content on the domain first, then redirect to relevant content
- 🗺️ Redirect to an HTML sitemap or a press release to pass juice without trying to rank directly
- 🧪 Test, because there are many ways and “it’s a matter of testing”
Stronger, more established sites react better to redirects. For a brand-new domain you risk little. The danger zone is a site that’s neither new nor very powerful, where you may see no result. ⚠️
🔗 Why PBNs Can Be Cash Positive
“I’d say PBNs are the best SEO strategy ever,” Kalin says, purely economically. You make a one-time investment in the domain and content, then only pay a cheap renewal. 💸
If it isn’t penalized, every link gives ongoing value. With several money sites in the same niche, you can link to multiple pages. You can also sell links, so a PBN can be “cash positive.” 🏦
🛡️ PBN Precautions, and the Chiang Mai Vibe
PBNs should be part of a mix with other link building, not everything. 🧩
They work especially well outside the US, where you can still get away with things you wouldn’t in US rankings. And unlike guest posts, you have full control over a PBN, so if you get a penalty you can remove the links. 🔧
This was Kalin’s third time at the Chiang Mai conference. “There is no scarcity in this community”: people have amazing ideas and are willing to share. He’s also been to BrightonSEO and plans to try conferences in the US. 🤝
