How do you sell when everyone is saving every dollar? 💸
On Inside A Hustler’s Brain, I spoke with my friend Alex Lyhovez from Israel, a business development expert in international markets, speaker and blogger. We talk almost daily. 🎙️
His core belief: even in a digital world, “there will never be a replacement for relationships.” 🤝
📊 In this episode, we unpacked:
- 🤝 Why relationships still win
- 😟 What changed in buyer behavior
- 💡 How to sell in a crisis
- 📦 Pivoting when supply stops
- 💻 Remote developers and diversification

🤝 Why Relationships Still Win
Alex started in digital marketing about ten years ago. Even with everything online, trust and rapport are what close deals. 🤝
He says he’s built relationships with hundreds of businesses and brought substantial revenue to his clients. 💼
😟 What Changed in Buyer Behavior
This isn’t a normal recession; it’s a pandemic crisis that feels life-threatening. 😟
People now buy what they need, not what they want. A “70% off, buy now” pitch won’t land. 🛑
And B2B and B2C need different answers. 🎯
💡 How to Sell in a Crisis
Alex’s approach:
- 🙋 Ask how you can help instead of pushing a sale
- 🎁 Offer something free, like free access for a period. A company once offered him a free month before he even replied, and he became their ambassador
- ❤️ Show sympathy. Don’t pretend nothing happened: “We’re all in this together”
- 🔁 Consider barter when cash is tight

📦 Pivoting When Supply Stops
I shared a friend’s story: his ecommerce business depended on products from China, and when borders closed, it stalled. 📦
I suggested he try affiliate marketing with in-demand health products through ad and affiliate networks. It helped him cover expenses. That year was about survival, not profit. 🛟
My own speaking and workshops stopped, so I focused on my blogs, since everyone was searching online. 💻
💻 Remote Developers and Diversification
Alex is also a partner in a software development company. In Israel, a developer can cost $10,000–12,000 a month; he can bring similar experience for about $3,000, and remote work has made that easy to accept. 💻
His rule: never put all your eggs in one basket. Diversify as much as you can. 🧺
