🌐 16 Years in Domain Names

Manmeet has been in the industry for 16 years. He registered his first domain name in 2000 while studying in Canada, and now holds about 12,000 domain names in his portfolio. 🌐

He says blogs and domains go together: to start a blog, you need a domain name, and a keyword or exact match domain can help. For more domaining stories, read Deepak Ramani and Aishwin Vikhona’s interview. 🔗

💰 His Biggest Sales

He has made six-figure sales in US dollars. His most notable was 43.com, sold for $150,000. He has also sold a couple of other names for $25,000 each. 💰

💡 How BlogX Was Born

The idea came from his friend Manoj Dhanda of MicroHost. They wanted to engage with India’s content creation industry and planned to invite a few leading bloggers. That grew into a full conference. 💡

DomainX, India’s only domain name conference by his account, had been drawing 300 to 500 people. BlogX ran alongside it on 5 August at the JW Marriott in Aerocity, New Delhi. They expected 300 to 400 people, and about 525 showed up. He thanked his DomainX partner Gaurav Kohli for helping run the shows. 🎉

🤝 Networking as the Secret Sauce

We met at DomainX 2015 in Bangalore, introduced by a friend, and clicked within minutes. Manmeet calls networking his secret sauce for building the two events: meet as many people as you can. 🤝

He likes my #keephustling line: keep working hard, work smart and don’t give up on your dreams. For my own talk from DomainX, read my interview with Siddharth Rajsekar. 🔗

🎤 Content Over Sponsored Pitches

At DomainX and BlogX, the focus is on real case studies, not product pushes. Sponsors get booths and banners, but speakers don’t deliver sponsored content. He sees that as key to the events’ success. 🎤

Plans for BlogX 2017 were to separate it from DomainX, likely in the first quarter. DomainX was set to return in August 2017. His advice: come to the events, network and say hi. 🙌
