“Look for the answers inside India. Other countries will eventually adopt the practices from here, not the other way around.” 📱

On day one of India Affiliate Summit 2015, I spoke with Ofir Brill, who handled HasOffers sales at TUNE for India and Southeast Asia, about why India’s mobile market was about to explode. 🎙️

📊 In this episode, we unpacked:

  • 📱 What HasOffers does in India
  • 🚀 India: the last mobile frontier
  • 💰 Is Indian e-commerce overvalued?
  • 🏥 Health, education and agriculture
  • 🎉 The first India Affiliate Summit

📱 What HasOffers Does in India

Ofir is based in Israel and works for TUNE, an American company headquartered in Seattle with eight offices worldwide. It was just opening an office in India after two years of heavy investment there. 📱

About 95% of TUNE’s operation is mobile, and it was the first to offer a tracking SDK for mobile apps. On the demand side it works with big advertisers like Flipkart, OLX and Amazon. On the supply side it provides tracking for most of India’s CPI networks, a unified platform for both. For a network that uses HasOffers, read vCommission’s Parul Bhargava. 🔗

🚀 India: The Last Mobile Frontier

With China’s mobile market saturated, Ofir saw India becoming the main focus for international companies. Funding was pouring in from local seed investors, Silicon Valley, Japan, Chinese companies and big Indian corporates. 🚀

India had about 250 million internet users, only about 80 million on desktop. All the growth was on mobile. He also expected that quarter to be India’s strongest ever for media budgets. For a tracking founder’s perspective, read Trackier’s Udit Verma. 🔗

💰 Is Indian E-Commerce Overvalued?

He didn’t think so yet, though it might be by mid-2016. A $15 billion valuation for Flipkart isn’t a lot: Indian e-commerce companies are becoming platforms for finance, education, content, health and more, and investors are looking five years ahead. 💰

He estimated India was reaching maybe 20% of its marketing potential, with two years of hyper-growth ahead, peaking around the end of 2017. For a mobile ad network’s view, read how to make money with PropellerAds. 🔗

🏥 Health, Education and Agriculture

Beyond e-commerce, he picked health, education and agriculture as the big revolutions. Apps like 1mg offer the full funnel: medicines delivered, doctor appointments, even home blood tests. 🏥

Cheap phones from brands like Spice and Micromax, soon perhaps $10–20 for 4G Android, plus spreading 4G networks would bring these services to rural India. Ofir had failed in India with past companies, a price-sensitive market that takes time to understand, but succeeded with TUNE. He’d visited about 30 times and once backpacked for six months. 🌾

🎉 The First India Affiliate Summit

The event, sponsored by some of TUNE’s clients such as vCommission, was much better than he expected: around 1,600 people, crowded and hot, with tons of clients and prospects. 🎉

India had few good events: ad:tech, GMIC in September and some small ones. A dedicated affiliate event was good for the industry. He hoped for twice a year and a bigger venue next time. 🏟️
