How Is AI Used Across the WordPress Ecosystem?
WordPress powers so many different kinds of sites with different needs. Ronnie says AI is now being used across the whole lifecycle: design, development, content and management, and everything in between.
I’ve used WordPress for around 12 years, since starting my affiliate marketing journey, so seeing AI built into the platform itself is a big deal.
What Are Jetpack AI and WordPress Content Guidelines? Your Site’s Memory
Jetpack AI started as a writing assistant and now includes content generation and AI featured images. Why? “Content has always been the hardest part of a website and the most important part.”
Ronnie is clear that the goal isn’t generic AI content: “That’s not the goal at all. But it’s a place to get started, to move a little faster.”
The next step is a Gutenberg experiment called content guidelines, which he hopes will land in WordPress core in version 7.1. You add your branding, tone of voice, priorities and goals, and Jetpack AI and WordPress.com assistant tools use them. Built core-first, any AI tool or agent can get that context. “It’s like your site memory.”
What Is Ronnie Burt’s Honest Take on AI Hype?
“Honestly, I think there’s a lot of hype,” Ronnie says, and a lot of exaggeration about how good AI is today. That’s fair criticism.
But the hype exists because “we’re so close,” and it gets better every day. He sees a future where AI takes care of the tasks that eat our time, so we can put our energy into creativity and the human touch. “We still definitely want the humans being the creators.”
Is AI in WordPress Optional? “It’s What You Make of It”
What does AI WordPress mean for publishers, agencies and site owners? “It’s what you make of it.”
Many users understandably want nothing to do with AI, and it won’t be forced on them; it can be turned off. At the other end, a personal project can automate everything and push AI to its limits.
What Does AI Change (and Not Change) About SEO, According to Ronnie Burt?
Ronnie agrees with what Google says: it’s about your point of view, your authority and your unique story. LLMs produce generic, average content without personality, so it’s up to humans to add real experiences.
But the basics of SEO haven’t changed, because LLMs search and aggregate in real time what we used to do by clicking through links manually. What matters more now is being unique, more niche, more local, or offering that extra point of view.
Content is “even more important than ever,” especially recent content. A trend Ronnie is personally seeing: instead of telling the same story five ways for five keywords, build one single authority post on a topic, then redirect or link from old posts and clean up old content. He’s honest that no one knows for sure how this will shape up.

What Are the Biggest AI Use Cases for WordPress? Prototyping and Managing Sites
One fun use case Ronnie’s team is exploring: using Claude, Claude Code, MCP or Codex to prototype and design sites fast. You can show a client four versions, let them choose, then build it however you always have.
He now redesigns his personal site about once a week because it takes him around 20 minutes.
Site management is the other big one: through MCP connectors, AI can scan 20 years of content in seconds, something no human could do quickly.

How Does WordPress.com Keep AI Agents Secure?
As more tools connect directly to sites, security matters. WordPress.com builds on top of the platform’s 20+ years of built-in permissions, security and best practices. Agents use the same permission system, CLI and APIs that a human would.
At WordCamp, the team was showing a built-in agent inspired by the open-source project OpenClaw, tailored to your WordPress site and guidelines. You can already access it through Telegram or WhatsApp to manage your site by chat or voice, all built in just the last few weeks.
It also helps connect your site content to your social channels, making that connection more automated.
What Is Next for WordPress and AI?
Which capability will matter most? Ronnie points to MCP plus Claude or your favourite LLM. The more you use it, the more you learn what it can do, and as tools like Claude Code and Claude Cowork add scheduling and custom skills, things move so fast that it’s hard to predict where we’ll be by December.
His mission: embrace that future and “bring WordPress along for the ride” to make it even better for more people.
On a lighter note, this was Ronnie’s first WordCamp Asia and first trip to India. He’s been to about 50 WordCamps and called it “the best WordCamp food ever.”
